A light amount of sweat decorates your forehead, and another light amount smears your palm. Your teeth are busy biting away your own lips and nails. Your eyes are acting like the light of the lighthouse, looking all around trying to take comfort in the uneasiness of others. And worse is your heart, busy pumping in and out blood as if this is the last time it has to do that function. Your legs are shaky and a million thoughts clog up your mind and when people ask you ‘what are you thinking?’. All you come up with is “Nothing!!!” Not that you don’t want to tell them, but simply that you yourself don’t know what you are thinking.
Welcome to the world of placement, guys! It is the time when 22 years of penance and hard work of our parents and ours are to bear fruit. The size of the fruit is directly proportional to the size of the above two parameters. Placements draw up three categories of people. Those who have studied and are aptly rewarded for their study. The second are the ones who haven’t and are suitably punished. The third ones are the ones who ride the vehicles of luck. They can be sub divided into two categories: Those who don’t study and bag the best offers and Those who study and find it difficult to bag even a single offer. Well, hence one should go for life insurance as life is full of shocks and surprises and the two situations above rightly portray them.
Placements bring out the very best and the worst of human nature. Your best friendships are put to test. New respects are earned and so are new denigrating terms. Worst insecurities creep up. Friendship falls victim to competition, smiles fall victim to tears and frowns. The first ones to come out of the web are the safest and the rest are left to keep on waging new battles and lose them.
Placements are like “Judgement Day”. Your whole life’s produce will be reaped now. If you have sowed continuously well, then you are guaranteed to reap well. But believe me, if you have sowed bad even for a single season, your whole reap is under a threat.
Like every other chapter, the chapter of placements is an interesting one and has a lot many things to teach us. I have grown a lot in the period of six months of placement and hopefully will be learning more. These are some of the lessons I have taken from Placements:
- Strive for excellence, Success will surely follow you.
- No matter what you do in life, they will all be counted, be it your small mistakes or small achievements. Everything Counts!!!
- It is only power that is respected and accounted for, nothing else.
- A winner always smiles, A loser always shouts (more about others than himself).
- Life does punish you for your misgivings, but in the end it is always forgiving!!!
Year after year the ride on this cycle is becoming difficult and the pedals are hard to move. So, for all those lucky baby birds who haven’t yet sprung their wings, you better buckle up even before you board the car, for even if you don’t wish, you have to ride the road and believe me, its so rocky, that even BMC will be put to shame !!!
