In this country of hypocrites women have long being revered for their strength in the form of Goddess Durga, for their intelligence in the form of Goddess Saraswathi and for their power in the form of Goddess Laxmi. Yet it is this very country which boasts of dowry deaths, of honour killings, of female infanticide and worst lot of the declining male-female ratio.
And what really saddens me is the fact is that education has been able to do little to remove the ills of this nation as far as crimes against women are concerned. Today we find well educated families stuck in the web of crimes committed against the females in their family.Little to say that these web were designed by themselves only.
The lush green fields of the North which feed the motherland are stained with the blood of the feminine species. Many days we hear of crimes being committed by the Punjabis settled in the sophisticated environs of Canada and U.K.. And Punjab and Haryana have the dubious honour of leading the country in female annihilation thru foeticides as well as the lowest male-female ratio.No wonder Haryana's biggest representative to Bollywood-Mallika Sherawat chooses to describe her state thus:".........wherein women are on par with the cattle kept in the backyard of the houses"
Why do we Indians behave so contradictorily in such societal issues. Since childhood we are made to learn that all Indians are equal, we are made to raise our right hand and take the pledge yet when time comes we choose to forget it.
I dont have much complaints from the generations gone by, but i have from the generations living and thriving now....Its the twentifirst century guys, why dont you grow up to it???
Its the woman who has gives birth to life form, its she who bears the pain for nine months, its she who gives strength to the newborn. Its she who brings him/her up. Yet we say that she is weak!!! Now do i call it hyp0crisy or extreme foolishness?
In a nation addressed as Motherland, and deities revered in form of women, its sad to hear about the crimes committed against them. The metros have become unsafe for them.Even Bombay!!! Lecherous eyes stalk them when they move out to face the world on their own. Ego thriving souls dont allow them to move up the ladder in workplaces.
So much that even the collective consciousness of India has very shamelessly shown its preference for male succes when in the numerous game shows its always the boys who are voted to move up and not the girls(Indian Idol, Voice of India).
Even the so called keeper of consciousness for Indian society ---the movie industry--prefer for a male caring treatment.Consider the salaries of the stars and the whole picture becomes clear.
Its high time that we practice what we have been preaching for centuries together. Its the same land which gave birth to Rani Laxmibai, to Indira Gandhi, to Sarojini Naidu, to Vijaylakshmi Pandit, to Kiran Bedi, to Bachendri Pal, and above all to your own mother............
